Application Guidelines

Application

Your application, including all supporting documents, must be consistent and accurate. Also, you must not omit any facts that are relevant and the information you provide must not be misleading. If we find that there are significant errors or omissions in the information you have given to us in the course of the application, your scholarship will be withdrawn or terminated.

Selection

The selection process will be fair. No applicant will have, or is allowed to seek or accept, any unfair advantage.  No member of the British Council or Tullow Oil plc will unfairly promote or disadvantage the interests of any applicant. If we find that you have secured an unfair advantage in the selection process we reserve the right to withdraw or terminate your Scholarship.

Note that employees of Tullow Oil and British Council as well as contractors, 3rd party contractors, consultants or their direct dependents are not eligible to apply for a Tullow scholarship. Also, employees from other Oil and Gas companies or companies that have a contract with Tullow are not eligible. If you need further clarification, please contact your local British Council office.

Finding a Course of Study

All applicants must select a course that fits their career aspirations in a preferred institution from the list of participating universities.  Candidates must apply independently and secure a conditional place on the course as early as possible.

Applicants in Ivory Coast and Mauritania should apply to Universities in France. If applicants from these countries seek to study in the UK, they will be required to provide evidence of proficiency in English language.

Placements on many of the most popular courses at top institutions are filled quite quickly. The British Council will assist successful applicants who are unable to get their first choice placements with alternate courses in institutions that fit their requirements. But if we cannot find a suitable alternative (perhaps because all the places have already been filled) then we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a Scholarship. Our policy is not to allow applicants to defer courses to another year. An applicant who has not secured a place on a suitable course will have to re-apply.

You must not make commitments, especially with financial consequences, until you know you have a confirmed place on a suitable course.

Note that the Tullow Group Scholarship Board reserve the right to assign specific courses and/or institutions to applicants at any time during the assessment and/or award process even after applicants have made personal selections during the application process.

Medicals

Applicants are expected to provide all relevant medical details (in confidence) in the medical form that will be given during the application process. This form should be sealed in an envelope, addressed to the Tullow Group Scholarship Officer at the British Council, to ensure a protection of privacy. A satisfactory medical report will be considered as a prerequisite for the awarding of a scholarship. If that medical report is not satisfactory we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a Scholarship. You must not make commitments, especially with financial consequences, until you know that your medical report is satisfactory.

Entry Clearance

As part of the Scholarship, UK entry clearance/Schengen visas will be secured for all awardees closer to travel dates. You must notify the British Council during your application of any information (convictions, association with terrorist organisations, etc.) that may be an impediment to securing a visa or entry clearance to study in the UK. If we find that we cannot provide you with a visa for any reason, we will withdraw the offer of a Scholarship. You should not make commitments, especially with financial consequences, unless you are certain that there will be no impediment to your securing a visa or entry clearance to study.

Change of Circumstance

If your circumstances change by an event or events that are genuinely beyond your control, you should contact us immediately. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that you can take up your Scholarship, but we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a Scholarship if we feel it is in the best interests of the applicant or Tullow Oil plc. At no time during or upon assumption of your selected course in the UK, Ireland or France will you be permitted to change course due to a module preference or the academic complexity of a course. Any scholar wishing to change course for other reasons including incorrect information of course modules on University websites will be required to write to the Award Administrator explaining in full the reason for the preferred change. The application will be reviewed and final decision or outcome instructed by the Tullow Group Scholarship Board.
